What is skin cancer and what causes it?

THE BASICS

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the US, it is caused by excess light exposure, either from the sun itself or from something that simulates sun. For example: tanning beds. It is worse for people with melanin deficiency in their skin. Which is people that are more pale, they're more likely to get skin cancer.

Skin cancer are cancerous cells that are overly destructive. They start at the top of the skin where the layer of the skin is superficial. Too much exposure to the sun can cause the the skin to age prematurely and change the texture of the skin.

There are three main types of skin cancer: Basal cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer. There are over 1 million new cases every year. Squamous cell carcinoma which is a small chance of spreading. And melanoma is an unusual growth or change in an existing mole.
